Mr. Church grew up on the wild shores of Lake Superior, running under towering White Pines, leaping across sunbaked stones, and plunging off igneous cliffs into the crystal clear, icy blue depths.

With a degree in Performing Arts from Beloit College, he worked at a variety of professional theatres around the country, including lead roles with The Michigan Shakespeare Festival and Seattle’s Annex Theatre, among others. He danced with and received a certificate from The Jamaica School of Dance before becoming a principal dancer with Brosseau Danceworks which toured the Southeast for several years.

With over 25 years of directing and teaching experience and 70+ productions to his name, he has taught speech, playwriting, Shakespeare, acting, and dance to students of all ages at Providence Day School (Charlotte, NC), Buckingham, Browne & Nichols School (Cambridge, MA), and University School of Milwaukee (WI), as well as leading Movement Workshops for Philosophy of Mind students as part of a two year grant at Vassar College.

He is the founder and director of Summerblue Arts, a visual and performing arts summer program for youth, located in Two Harbors, MN, now in its 21st season. The program recently won a Minnesota state award for its excellence and longevity, and his lead visual art teacher (and friend and colleague) was named Minnesota Art Teacher of the Year.

He is also the founder of Winterblue Theatre, directing a variety of productions with both youth and professional actors, including Macbeth, Miss Julie , and an original play of his entitled Odyssey for Peace all done in Portland, Maine; two plays by William Butler Yeats done in Madison, Wisconsin; and Romeo and Juliet done here in Minnesota.

Mr. Church has two school age daughters a 15 year old and a 10 year old. He is a North Shore swimmer, runner, and Boundary Waters enthusiast.

James Davis- Technical Director

Jim_Theatre New

Jim Davis is a graduate from University of Wisconsin- River Falls with a BAS in Technical Theatre. Jim has worked with numerous other theatres such as: Theatre in the Round, Southern Theatre, Only a Dim Image Dessert Theatre, Off Broadway Dinner Theare, The Phillps Center for the Arts, as well as numerous others. He has been involved in over 60 productions from building to acting.
